The effect of topic on word formation and the frequency of neologism use on Internet forums
2013
Tutkielma toteutettiin vertailemalla s…

An Evaluation of HCI and CMC in Information Systems within Highly Crowded Large Events
2013
Pervasive systems are composed of a large variety of networked smart devices that supposedly enrich the environment they are deployed in. The access to services provided by a pervasive system should be as natural and “unconscious” as possible. In a large number of cases, the available interaction modality seems to be more oriented towards showing off technological wonders rather than to the actual usability of the interface. In this paper we evaluate and compare two different versions of an information provision system deployed in two editions of a large fair. In particular, we will focus on the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Computer-Mediated-Communication (CMC) points of view. The a…
Doctor-patient exchanges in web counselling
2011
There are two overall approaches to doctor-patient interaction: the biomedical one and the socio-relational one. The biomedical approach is the most common and tends to explore the asymmetrical doctor-patient relationship. with the doctor seeking information about the patient’s complaints, giving a diagnosis and prescribing a treatment. The aim of this kind of communication is to create a good relationship in order to exchange information and facilitate treatment-related decisions. However, it is well-known that the production of talk is linked to the context. The relationship between doctor and patients can be performed online, through specific collaborative care service sites. It is still…
A Genre Approach to Electronic Rapid Responses from the Online British Medical Journal
2015
2016
The aim of this article is to analyze the agreement of the past participle in Computer mediated communication, especially on Facebook. The graphic realization of the past participle agreement is considered as one of the main difficulties of the French orthography which is characterized by its extreme opacity. Breaking this rule can be compared in the French culture to a sort of a linguistic taboo. The aim of our study is to answer the question if the simplifications of the agreement of the past participle are allowed in Computer mediated communication or if they are considered as a kind of linguistic taboo. To answer this question, we have of a corpus of 200 past participle agreements downl…
Content Domain and Language Competence in Computer-mediated Conversation for Learning
2012
This study addresses the issue of interactional dominance in Teletandem conversations, in which two speakers communicate via video calls and chat and alternatively use their L2, the latter being the native language of the interlocutor. In particular, the research focuses on the impact of language competence (native/non-native) and content expertise (minus/plus familiarity with the topic at hand) on the role assumed by each interlocutor in structuring conversation. The data consists of 3 hours of computer-mediated recorded and transcribed conversations during 3 meetings: meeting 1 comprises free discussion for mutual introduction; meeting 2 is a discussion in English of a topic chosen by the…
